To See a Lieutenant Smacked in the Face

Our new LT, fresh out of Officer Candidate School was really into PT; we knew that because he told us within the first few words of meeting his new troops.  Pretty much every one of our group - all 150 - was on our first deployment and really nervous.  Of course having a 27 year old Platoon Leader that was "really into PT" made us nervous - who gives a flip if you can do the correct amount of sit-ups for a test if you're going to be in a foreign country to risk your life?!  Perhaps he knew something that we did not.

One of the skills that each person in our group was required to be certified in was implementing an I.V.  There were several guys that were squeamish about needles or blood but the guys did a pretty good job considering we all had to stick so many to certify and we had to let other use us as guinea pigs.  Our Lieutenant took the cake though; right as the first needle was being placed in his forearm, he blacked out.  Lucky for him he was laying on a pad already.  There was only one medical professional there so he just let us practice on the L.T. just in case that were to happen again.  A couple of us yelled in his ear or pinched his leg without effect.  A specialist that had been in the military a very long time and had developed a very dry humor about ever goings-on that the military had to offer came over.  He stood over the Lieutenant, yelled his name a couple of times then grabbed LTs collar and hauled off and back-handed the tar out of him.  It was loud and it was glorious.  The LT quickly woke up, then passed out again after being placed in a chair to recover.  The medical professional - a paramedic did a sternal rub (taking the knuckles of your fist and rubbing them very hard up and down a person's sternum) which is extremely painful - but effective!

I'll never forget that day - it was a diamond in the rough.

Husbands on Valentine's Day

Guys, Valentine's Day is not for us!  I hope everyone has a great V-Day and spends more time than money on their lady's gift.  Note, men, does she really really like flowers?  If you don't think so then don't get her any because flowers are too expensive to waste on someone who doesn't care for them.

Also, if you're not spending money on flowers, spend that money on a second gift!  I believe that this post will blow men's minds...the information surely blew mine.
